Effectiveness of Managerial Strategies in Handling Interpersonal Conflict in Public Secondary Schools in Tarime Urban, Mara Region, Tanzania

ABSTRACT
The intention of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of managerial strategies in handling interpersonal conflict in public secondary schools in Tarime Urban. This study was guided by one specific objectives; Examine strategies applied by the heads of school in handling interpersonal conflict in public secondary schools in Tarime Urban. The study employed mixed research approach and convergent parallel Research design. The study used a sample size of 150 respondents who were solicited using both probability and non-probability sampling techniques. Quantitative and qualitative data were collected through questionnaires and interview guide. Descriptive statistics was used to evaluate the quantitative data through SPSS version 20 the data was presented through tables. Qualitative data were recorded using field data note book and smart phone and were analyzed using thematic analysis. The instrument for quantitative was validated by using content validity while split-half was 0.85.Qualitative instrument was validated using peer review while dependability ensured the reliability for qualitative instruments. The study established that heads of school should handle interpersonal conflicts in public secondary schools using the multiple strategies including meeting, negotiations, communication, collaboration, scolding and warning, mediation, guidance and counseling and education.
